A Tribute to a Theatrical Soul
adele Fulciniti, a name synonymous with passion and dedication to the arts in Calabria, continues to inspire admiration. Giancarlo Spadanuda reflects on the profound impact Fulciniti had on the cultural landscape, emphasizing her unwavering commitment to theater and her generous spirit.
A Life dedicated to the Stage
Fulciniti’s love for theater was all-encompassing. Spadanuda recalls countless nights spent traveling across calabria, from Crotone’s Apollo Theatre to venues in Cosenza, Vibo, and beyond, discussing and dissecting performances with Fulciniti. These “night rides,” as he fondly calls them, were filled with intellectual discourse and a shared appreciation for the dramatic arts.
With adele, who did not drive the car, I spent, over many years, hundreds of nights along all Calabria: real night rides, as I called them, but I liked to speak and comment with her the theatrical work just seen.

This dedication mirrors the broader cultural importance of regional theaters in Italy. While major cities like Rome and Milan often dominate the spotlight, smaller venues throughout the country play a vital role in preserving local traditions and fostering artistic talent. According to a 2024 report by the Italian ministry of culture, regional theaters contribute substantially to the nation’s cultural GDP,attracting both local audiences and tourists seeking authentic cultural experiences.
The Tradition of Flowers: A Gesture of Respect
Fulciniti was known for her unique and heartfelt gesture of throwing colorful bouquets onto the stage at the end of performances. This act, reminiscent of ancient Greek traditions, delighted and surprised actors, who were touched by her noble and timeless expression of appreciation. This tradition, though rare today, highlights the deep connection between performers and their audience, a bond that Fulciniti cherished.
In all these theaters, none excluded, at the end of the show Adele launched Mazzetti di flowers on stage (gorgeous flowers, all rigorously colorful) in homage to the actors, who were keen about the noble and ancient gesture.

A Character Worthy of Dostoevsky
Spadanuda likens Fulciniti to a character from Dostoevsky’s novels, particularly Nasten’ka from “White Nights,” emphasizing her unwavering desire to be involved in theater at any cost. This comparison underscores Fulciniti’s passionate and somewhat unconventional approach to life, driven by her artistic aspirations.
Adele, for me, was a character worthy of the Dostoevskij pen…the great desire of Adele has always been to do theater, theater, at any cost, and it could well.
