Little Adam, who arrived in Italy from Gaza this summer for medical treatment in Milan after surviving an Israeli raid that killed his nine brothers, is now back in school and continuing his recovery. Adam, who is under the care of the Niguarda hospital for clinical, support, and rehabilitation services, has been enrolled in an international private institute in the city thanks to a donation covering his tuition from an anonymous donor.

According to the councilor for welfare of the Lombardy region, Guido Bertolaso, after the inauguration of the Gaetano Pini emergency room, “At this moment he is a child who is truly returned to being a child after the tragedy he lived.” He added, “I finally saw him smile the other day when he started the school – he added -, then we will see over time if he and the mother will decide to stay here in Milan or whether to find other destinations”.

Adam and his mother, Pediatrician Alaa al-Najjar, are residing in a house provided by the Arca Project, an association coordinating fundraising efforts for Adam and other Palestinian children receiving care in Lombardy. Upon his arrival, Adam had numerous splinters from a bombing during an air raid on May 23 in Khan Youunis, located in the southern Gaza Strip, and suffered peripheral nerve injuries. The Niguarda medical team performed the necessary surgical treatments. Adam continues to recieve hospital care three times a week, undergoing a lengthy rehabilitation process.

In addition to Adam, the Niguarda hospital is also caring for a 3-month-old girl with a severe heart condition and a 4-year-old with multiple wounds and injuries from debris. Another child is hospitalized at Buzzi, while three others in very serious condition are at Pope John XXIII of bergamo.
