Adam Sandler’s Favourite Co-Star Revealed

by Archynetys News Desk

You know what, I’m going to say it: Adam Sandler sucks.

He might have his brief flashes of excellence – Punch-Drunk Love, Uncut Gems, etc – but, for the most part, he and his whole schtick is terrible. Few actors have been given the opportunity to spew out as much pungent drek as this guy, only to somehow get financed to do the same thing all over again. To top it all off, he allegedly once gave money to a Rudy Giuliani presidential campaign. Case closed.

Unfortunately, not everyone shares these views on the Sandman. He has worked with a truly staggering array of Hollywood giants, from Winona Ryder to Kathy Bates, James Caan to Jack Nicholson. He has also established his own inner circle of frequent collaborators. If Sandler is in a movie, you know that Kevin James probably isn’t that far behind. He’s been in three movies with Drew Barrymore and has the same number of shared credits with the subject of this article, Jennifer Aniston.

Sandler first co-starred with the Friends actor in the 2011 romantic comedy Just Go with It. Aniston plays Katherine, the secretary to Dr Danny Maccabee (Sandler), a man who pretends to be in an unhappy marriage in order to win over other women. Following a lengthy time apart, the pair reunited for Murder Mysteryin which they play a couple who find themselves part of a crime aboard a billionaire’s superyacht. The movie was so successful – the biggest opening in Netflix history – that it got a sequel four years later.

This lucrative on-screen partnership led to a rather awkward moment during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Aniston straight-up asked Sandler why she was his favourite co-star, which seemed to catch him off guard. “Drew is so angry right now,” he said, referring to his other prominent female co-worker. After laughing this comment off, he actually gave a very serious, very touching response.

“You certainly have a way about making life fun on the set,” he revealed. “You care about how I’m doing… if I’m enjoying my life, if I’m healthy”. All of this is very sweet, but of course, Sandler couldn’t keep up this level of sincerity for very long. “You do things to make my beard smell better,” he said, which… OK. He then rounded things off by claiming that, following scenes where they had to kiss, Aniston waited until after the take was done to run off screaming into another room. If that isn’t true friendship, then what is?

Both Aniston and Barrymore have come up in previous discussions of Sandler’s favourite jobs, so he clearly has a soft spot for both women. Critically speaking, the latter has probably turned out better than before. Just Go with It and the two ‘Murder Mystery’ movies received mixed-to-negative reviews from most viewers, while the Sandler-Barrymore connection has at least produced The Wedding Singer. It also led to 50 First Dateswhich isn’t exactly genius, and Blendeda complete disaster, but one out of three isn’t bad.

Whether she’s asking about his life or doing strange things to his facial hair, Aniston clearly makes Sandler happy, which is lovely. Hopefully, Drew Barrymore didn’t see this interview; otherwise, we probably won’t be getting Blended 2 anytime soon. On second thoughts, hopefully she did see it.
