Heat can become a problem on higher floors if the wet air builds up there. An expert explains whether the purchase of a mobile air conditioning is worthwhile.
In the warm summer months, interiors can quickly heat up due to solar radiation and lack of cooling. In front of the door, the increasing UV radiation becomes a health risk. But even in your own four walls, the heat is often unbearable in summer 2025 – especially on higher floors.
To remedy this, the discounter Lidl has launched a new mobile air conditioning system at a price of 149 euros. The device named SMK 7000 B2 should be suitable for rooms of 30 to 45 cubic meters and provide “reliably for pleasant coolness” there. But what are such mobile systems really good for? echo24.de asked an energy expert.

Basically, a distinction is made between two different types of mobile air conditioners that consist only of one component – air cooler and air conditioners. The air cooler evaporates water to create a little cooler air. The air conditioning unit without hose connection mostly dehumidifies the air. This means that the bodily sweat can evaporate better and there is a better cooling effect for the human body.
The better variant is the mobile air conditioner with a exhaust hose outside. The warm exhaust air can usually be derived through a window or a window door via a flexible pipe. These devices dehumidify the room air on one side and also give heat outside via the exhaust hose. This also makes a higher lowering of the room temperature possible.
Disadvantage of the matter: this creates space. You have to be careful that the window opening does not flow too much hot air via columns in windows and doors, warns Michael Maucher, energy consultant at the Baden-Württemberg Consumer Center.

There are also mobile air conditioners with a second hose that brings a fresh air supply from the outside. This process enables air renewal by re -flowing chilled outer air. Because there is hardly any space pressure, this variant produces a higher and faster cooling capacity and thus becomes more energy -efficient. This variant works particularly well, especially in the morning and evening hours, in which it has cooled clearly cooled outside the apartment.

The mobile air conditioning systems can cool up to 50 cubic meters of large rooms, i.e. rooms up to a size of 20 square meters, according to the energy expert. The new Lidl product also meets these requirements, which should be suitable for up to 45 cubic meters.
Consumers have to be careful that the water in the device is not too long because it can become a germ spin so quickly. This always applies when the air conditioning is filled with water, but is not in operation.
Is that why a mobile device automatically becomes a special danger for allergy sufferers? “It is correct that more particles are whirled through the air due to the air flows,” says Maucher, who for the Energy agency Oberschwaben gGmbH is professionally active. However, integrated air filters remove dust and pollutants from the air, causing dust grains to fly through the room. The movable Lidl air conditioning system also has such a system.
For whom the purchase of a movable air conditioner is really worthwhile
In contrast to fans, for which the energy expert gives extra tips in dry heat, mobile air conditioning systems not only provide a pleasant evaporation effect- especially through the bottle and ice cube trick. Rather, they actually cool down the room temperature to up to three degrees and keep the room temperature tolerable. Anyone who is located directly in the airflow benefits particularly from the feeling of refreshment, says Maucher.
However, it can take a few hours until the whole room including furniture and walls. So that the device does not use energy unnecessarily, it should not be used in early morning from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. In addition, roller shutters and blinds should stay below if possible. By the way, it cools even better with a heat trick.
If you work a lot in the home office, or are already physically weakened or struck, the investment in a mobile air conditioning system is always suffering. Moist, hot air is replaced by drier, cold air, which means that the body can give up heat better and sweat better, says Maucher.
