The Lebanese judiciary is completing its investigations into the “Abu Omar” scandal, and today, Monday, January 5, the discriminatory public prosecutor, Jamal Al-Hajjar, heard from representatives Ahmed Al-Khair and Sajia Attia, and recorded the testimony of Muhammad Haddara, from one of the members of the businessman Ahmed Haddara, who had previously filed a report with the discriminatory public prosecution against Sheikh Khaldoun Araymit in this file.
After the end of the hearings, Al-Modon’s sources reported that Al-Hajjar will schedule sessions for a number of politicians in the coming days, before concluding the investigations and referring them to the Public Prosecution. According to the information, the judiciary may move to charge the detainees with forming a gang of evil people and disturbing relations with a sister country, which means the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Although there is no information yet about the money that was paid to the imaginary prince or that was given to Sheikh Araymat, the threads of this file gradually began to be revealed, revealing that the imaginary prince had interfered with the politicians’ decision regarding the nomination of the prime minister.
Official statement
After Representative Al-Khair left the Beirut Palace of Justice, he issued a statement in which he explained all these matters, saying:
“Today, I responded to the invitation of the Public Prosecutor of Cassation, Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar, to testify about what happened at the meeting of the “National Moderation” bloc before the consultations on naming the president-designate, and the details of the difference in viewpoints that arose at that time, and the call that a member of the bloc received from the “alleged prince” called Abu Omar..
My testimony came in light of the testimony given a few days ago by my colleague, Representative Muhammad Suleiman, during which I was keen to be frank with Judge Al-Hajjar with all the information I possessed, in a way that would serve the course of the investigation and put the facts in their correct context before public opinion..
In my testimony, I spoke about the division that prevailed at the meeting of the “National Moderation” bloc over the nomination, between my and some colleagues’ adherence to naming President Najib Mikati, in contrast to the rest of the colleagues’ tendency to nominate Judge Nawaf Salam, especially after his nomination by the “Democratic Gathering” and “Strong Lebanon” blocs, given that the balance was now tilted in his favor, and it was in the bloc’s interest to nominate him..
In the midst of this discussion, our colleague Muhammad Suleiman received a call from the so-called Abu Omar, who was presented to us as a prince from the Saudi royal court, and included indirect instructions not to name Mikati, considering they were directives from the court, which led to almost unanimity among the members of the bloc to name Salam instead of Mikati..
When the “alleged prince’s” call aroused suspicion and suspicion within me, I immediately, from within the bloc’s meeting, contacted His Excellency the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Walid Bukhari, to put him in the atmosphere of communication and clarify the truth about the directives attributed to the Royal Court, but he was out of earshot, and the time for consolidation in consultations had come, so the nomination was made in favor of Salam..
Later, on the same day, Ambassador Bukhari took the initiative to contact me in response to my previous attempts to contact him. I informed him of what had happened and the contact details. He asked me to meet him at the embassy house in Yarzeh, where I presented to him the complete facts. He in turn contacted Prince Yazid bin Farhan, and I spoke to him and informed him of the full details of what had happened..
What was mentioned above comes from my keenness to clarify the truth and resolve any confusion, as a continuation of my statement issued two days ago, in which I confirmed that I am not concerned with this issue, and that I am keen on my permanent and direct communication with the official channels in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Kingdom’s embassy in Lebanon and His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Buhari, in response to the attempts to defame and slander my name in the media in this case.
Based on the above, I affirm my full confidence that the course of the investigation will lead to revealing the full facts and holding accountable all those involved, and everyone who tried to exploit this case to mislead public opinion or defame people’s dignity.”.
