ABL Bio (CEO Lee Sang-hoon) announced on the 8th that it has completed the domestic patent registration of a BCMA (anti-B cell maturation antigen) single antibody.
BCMA is a protein that is overexpressed in multiple myeloma. The company explained that since many patients with multiple myeloma relapse even if they respond to existing treatments, there is a large unmet need for new treatments that can overcome this condition.
Accordingly, the company added that various types of BCMA-targeted treatments, such as double antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADC), and T-antigen receptor (CAR-T) cells, are actively being developed throughout the world. Last year, global pharmaceutical company Pfizer received approval for the BCMA and CD3 targeting bispecific antibody ‘Elrexfio’ as a treatment for multiple myeloma in the United States and Europe.
