Pinpointing a single issue for aberdeen’s performance is challenging, but the constant turnover of players is a significant factor frequently enough overlooked.

Under manager Jimmy Thelin, the club has seen a significant influx and outflow of players, with 24 new faces arriving in just three transfer windows. This January, Aberdeen essentially rebuilt its defense and then had to replace left-back Jack Mackenzie this summer.

Goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov, who was the first-choice last season, was sidelined for extended periods due to injury. When the team secured 13 consecutive wins, Mitov played behind a consistent back four.

Beyond defensive continuity, a lack of physicality and aggression has also been apparent. according to Opta data, Aberdeen has lost more challenges then any other team in the Premiership since the start of last season. This could stem from slow reactions or poor positioning, but it’s a worrying trend in a league where winning tackles is crucial.

The attack is also suffering from a lack of stability. Among Aberdeen’s forwards, only Topi Keskinen has started more than 22 of thier last 41 league matches. Key creators and scorers like Jamie McGrath, Pape Gueye, and Shayden Morris have all departed.

Aberdeen has made more lineup changes than any team in the league except Celtic and Rangers.
