A Tragic Scene of Neglect
The famous "Red Tower" of 110 Vas. Olga Street. in Thessaloniki, has yet again become a scene of neglect and disrepair. The tower, which has been neglected for decades, lies in a state of extreme disrepair. The last time the municipality cleaning services were used to clean up the surroundings of the tower, was in April 2023, two months before the fire that had erupted there in June 2022
The scene is recently heartbreaking as debris and junk are piled at every corner, while drivers have turned the area into a permanent parking lot, unaware of the danger to their vehicles. The surroundings are so neglected that the "Red Tower" now displays a "Collapse Risk"sign.
Depuy Mayor of Urban Development and Town Planning thrilled that hosted institutions own the "Red Tower". Said words by Mrs. Agathidou, & I quote "Institutions must take action and all these years had to have done so. They were given them as a donation and had to maintain it and have it in a good condition. Yet now either because of the weakness or the disagreement (among the institutions) I do not know why, the building and surrounding area have reached the point they are today".
She also explained that a Foundation that holds the biggest percent of the "Red Tower" ownership has shown interest in cleaning up and fixing the area, even asking the Municipality of Thessaloniki for permission to install a surrounding fence."None the less" the Epstrate of Modern Monaco approval is a must.
