December 25, 2025, 2:10 a.m
The journey of nine people in a Mercedes Sprinter on the A 4 motorway towards Dresden ended on Wednesday night just behind the Oberlausitz service area (kilometer 42.5) at the railing of a bridge. The 40-year-old driver of the vehicle went off the road onto the grass verge for an unknown reason, drove over the guardrail after about 200 meters and collided with the railing of the following bridge. The bridge railing drilled into the vehicle by around three meters, causing it to partially hang in the air above the emergency stairs.
All nine occupants, aged 33 to 77, were injured in the accident. Two passengers were taken to the surrounding hospitals for treatment with life-threatening injuries and the other seven people were seriously injured.
The total material damage in the accident amounted to around 100,000 euros, divided into 80,000 euros in damage to the vehicle and 20,000 euros in damage to the guard rail and bridge railing. Due to the accident, the A4 had to be completely closed until the morning. The traffic accident service of the Bautzen motorway district is taking over the investigation.

Personal check with interesting find
Weißwasser/OL, Muskauer Straße
December 24, 2025, 3:15 p.m
The officers from the Weißwasser police station carried out an identity check on Muskauer Strasse in Weißwasser on the afternoon of Christmas Day and made an unusual discovery.
The 44-year-old German citizen who was checked was carrying a clip bag with what is believed to be crystal meth, as well as various jewelry and coins. The man was unable to show any proof of ownership of the gold and silver jewelry, which also included engraved wedding rings, and did not want to provide any information. A letter from a gold dealer about the sale of jewelry worth over 1,000 euros gave the police officers suspicion of receiving stolen goods for commercial purposes. The public prosecutor’s office who was called in shared this suspicion and ordered the items to be confiscated. The man is facing charges of illegal possession of narcotics and receiving stolen goods for commercial purposes.
