MISCELLANEOUS FACT – During an intervention to arrest an armed individual, a police car a left the road and injured 5 pedestrians Saturday evening, in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. No serious injuries but victims and witnesses as well as police officers are very shocked (see our article of February 6).

Police Sniper Kills Suspected Bank Robber Holding Hostages in Florida
A dramatic incident unfolded in a busy Bank of America branch in Florida on Tuesday when a police sniper took down a suspected bank robber who had two hostages. The suspect, identified as Sterling Ramon Alavache, 36, was shot by a SWAT unit sniper after he threatened a female hostage with a knife at the bank located in a shopping center off the US-41 south of Fort Myers, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a call around 11 a.m. and swiftly entered the building to start negotiations while customers and staff evacuated. Video footage from NBC News’ affiliate station WBBH captured the intense moment when a deputy engaged in a tense negotiation with the suspect inside the bank’s lobby.
Negotiations Turned Deadly
Sheriff Carmine Marceno revealed in a press conference that the suspect claimed to have a bomb and was armed with a knife during the negotiations. The situation escalated when he physically threatened one of the hostages by putting her in a headlock and holding a knife to her throat. In response to the imminent danger, the SWAT team made the decision to use deadly force and shot the suspect.
