Hungary’s Main Opposition Demands Early Elections Amid EU Fund Losses
Amid escalating political tensions and financial setbacks, Hungary’s main opposition leader, Peter Magyar, has called for early elections. The demand comes after the country lost more than €1 billion in European Union funds due to its failure to address corruption and rule-of-law concerns.

Magyar stated, “You have made Hungary the poorest, most corrupt nation in the European Union.” He urged Orban to bring forward the election date to the earliest possible time, asserting that Hungary has no more room for his government’s leadership.
Government’s Response
In response, government officials dismissed opposition calls for early elections. They claimed Hungarian policy meets all the conditions for accessing EU funds.
EU affairs minister Janos Boka said, “The Hungarian government has met all conditions required to access all EU funds. Brussels wants to take away the funds that Hungary and the Hungarian people are entitled to because of its political agenda.”
Hungary also vowed to use “all legal and political tools at its disposal” to regain access to its EU funds.
The Rise of a New Opposition
