SMARTNEWS.ID – The Bandar Lampung City Health Service noted that the supply of anti-rabies vaccine (VAR) received from the Ministry of Health is currently only around 1,600 doses.

A number of doses were distributed in community health centers throughout Bandar Lampung City. “For this reason, we have created a mechanism so that vaccines can be used jointly between community health centers,” explained the Head of the Health Service, Muhtadi, Thursday, November 6 2025.

According to Muhtadi, there are around 600 cases of animal bites that cause rabies in Bandar Lampung in one year.

“Each bite victim usually requires two vaccine injections, so stocks run low quickly,” said the former Head of the Bandar Lampung City Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Service.

Sharing System

Muhtadi explained that, anticipating vacancies, the Health Department implemented a stock sharing system between health facilities.

“For example, the community health center in Panjang runs out, you can take it to Rajabasa or the nearest area. Currently there are around 200 doses left in stock,” he explained.

He added that the Health Department had also reported the limited condition of this vaccine to the Ministry of Health in order to obtain additional supplies.

“Not all bites are immediately injected, but the condition of the animal is first seen. If the animal shows symptoms of rabies, then the vaccine is given,” he explained.

With this stock sharing system, the Health Department hopes that services to the community will continue to run without problems. (***)
