Australia has called out Russia over the arrest of a Ukrainian scientist
Nature Conservation Conference in Hobart
At an international conference dedicated to protecting nature in the city of Hobart, a sharp diplomatic tension emerged over the arrest of Ukrainian scientist Leonid Pshenychnov, who was detained by Russia in the currently occupied territory of Crimea. The Ukrainian side considers this move by Russia to be politically motivated and a violation of human rights. The Australian delegation quickly responded to this situation. They called on Russia to take responsibility for its actions and ensure that the scientist can represent Ukraine’s position at the international level. It also highlighted Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which is viewed as illegal and immoral. It is also important to mention that the Ukrainian soldier Dmytro Remez, who served in the ‘Azov’, was sentenced to a long prison sentence on terrorism charges. This situation highlights the general tension in relations between Ukraine and Russia, which remains a current issue at the international level. Conference participants emphasized the importance of respecting human rights and supporting scientists facing political repression.
