Cork Flood Protests: Calls for Better Defences

by Archynetys News Desk

Hundreds of home and business owners from East Cork and Midleton are currently staging a protest in the town due to the lack of response, they claim, to the impact of Storm Babet two years ago.

Over 600 homes in the Midleton region and over 200 business were impacted during Storm Babet and according to the Midleton Flood Protection Group the response from the Government and local authorities has, to date, been lacking and inadequate.

As a Status Orange rain warning looms for Cork and Waterford tonight and tomorrow, protesters say this ongoing situation is a constant cause of worry and upset as residents and business owners fear history may repeat itself at any given time.

The protesters are calling for flood measures and defences to be expedited as a matter of urgency.

Damages sustained during Storm Babet are estimated to cost in the region of €200 million euro.
