7 Oktober – Purnama Hunter’s Moon

The moon will be on the opposite side of the earth, while the sun will shine fully. This phase occurred at 3:49 a.m. UTC. In the western world, especially by the original American tribes, Purnama in October was given the nickname Hunter’s Moon or the month of the hunter because at this time the leaves were falling and the game was fat and ready to be hunted.

This month is also known as Travel Moon (Travel Month) and Blood Moon (Blood Month). This full moon is the first of three supermoons in 2025. The moon will be at its closest point to the earth and may look a little bigger and brighter than usual.

October 7 – Draconid Meteor Rain

Draconid is a minor meteor shower which only produces about 10 meteors per hour. This rain is produced by dust granules left from the 21P Giacobini-Zinner comet, which was first discovered in 1900.

Draconid is an unusual meteor shower because the best time to observe it is in the afternoon, not in the morning like most other meteor shower. This meteor shower takes place every year on October 6-10 and reaches its peak this year on the night of October 7.

Unfortunately, glare from the moon that is in the full phase will prevent most meteors this year. Because the frequency of appearance per hour is low, maybe you should not be too hopeful, unless it’s really patient waiting for it.

The best time to observe it is in the afternoon from a dark location far from the lights of the city. The meteor will radiate from Draco’s constellation, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

October 21 – New Moon

The moon will be on the same side of the earth as the sun and will not be seen in the night sky. This phase occurred at 12:26 UTC. The new moon phase is the best time to observe dim objects such as galaxies and star groups because there is no annoying moonlight.

21-22 Oktober – Hujan Meteor Oriionid

Orionid is an average meteor shower that produces up to 20 meteors per hour at its peak. This rain is produced by dust granules left by Halley’s comet, which has been known and observed since ancient times.

This meteor takes place every year from October 2 to November 7. The peak this year occurred on the night of October 21 and the morning of October 22. This is an excellent year for Orionid.

The moon will be absent to appear all night, so that the sky will be very dark and become the perfect canvas to display extraordinary meteor shower. The best observation is from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation of Orion stars, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

October 29 – Mercury in the Largest Eastern Elongation

Planet Mercury reaches its largest Eastern elongation, which is 23.9 degrees from the sun. This is the best time to observe Mercury because it will be at the highest point above the horizon in the twilight sky. Look for this planet in the western sky right after sunset.
