Correspondence from the Philippines – Arkadiusz Dudziak
The Polish national team at the World Volleyball Championships has won bronze this year. However, there is one of our countrymen who could enjoy the championship on Sunday. This is Kamil Rychlicki, who is the second attacker appears in the Italian national team.
The parents of the volleyball player were Polish volleyballers, and his father even won the European runner-up in white and red colors. Kamil himself was born in Luxembourg, but a few years ago he got Italian citizenship. From this season he has been in Italy as a naturalized player. We described his history more broadly here.

We talked to the attacker after winning the final with Bulgaria (3: 1). He told what he feels after winning the world championship, as well as after the match with Poland, which he was watching entirely from the square for the reserve. He also turned to the white and red.
Arkadiusz Dudziak, WP SportoweFakty: What do you feel after the final?
Kamil Rychlicki, attacking the Italian team: I don’t trust. I will need some time to get it to me. I never thought that I would be a world champion or that I would have such an opportunity at all, coming from Luxembourg. Of course, I dreamed as a kid, but I thought it wouldn’t happen. It’s amazing.
What thoughts are on your head now?
My heart tells me that it paid off and I’m happy. You have to enjoy such beautiful moments. Sometimes it’s better, sometimes worse. You work for such moments, waiting.
In this finale you won the first two sets, but the third fell to the Bulgarian. What have you told yourself?
We knew well that Bulgarians had potential to threaten us. Aleksandar Nikołow finished almost every ball. We were looking for peace and a cool head. First of all, after the second set we told ourselves: “Okay, we are a step, but we still lack a lot of gold.”
The day before you played in the semi -final with Poland and you won very convincingly.
In the match against Poland, the fighting spirit decided. We lost in each set in several points. However, we have always fought with a raised head for every point. Step by Kroczk, we were able to reach rivals and win the tips.
That match liberated any additional emotions in you?
Almost maximum! It was already the semi -final of the world championship, to this against Poland. It was a special moment for me that I will never forget. Of course, Sunday evening will stay in my head forever.
Your captain Simone Giannelli entered the decoration ceremony in Daniele Lavia‘s T -shirt, who did not come to the Philippines through injury.
At one of the last trainings before the World Championships, Daniele suffered a hand injury. He had several broken fingers and was unable to play. Now he undergoes rehabilitation. He was and is an important figure in our team. Now we have always been in touch, he experienced it all with us. We wanted to show the world and to him that even if he was not physically with us here, his spirit was always among us.
What led you to the title of World Championships?
Prowess. We were fighting with a raised head all the time. We were able to play our best volleyball in the most important moments when the greatest pressure weighted on us.
The Polish national team won the bronze medal at these world championships. Do you have something to pass on to your countrymen?
Certainly sorry to lose the semi -final. Bronze, however, is also a medal and success. You have to enjoy this medal. Congratulations on this result of the Polish national team.
