Lee Kyu-won, Secretary General of the fatherland Innovation Party, has called for Kwon Sung-dong, a member of the National Assembly, to uphold his pledge to abandon lawmaker privileges following the filing of an arrest warrant against him for alleged violations of the Political Fund act on the 28th.

The photo shows a pledge of abandonment of the privilege of immersion, which was stamped by 51 people of the people, including kwon Sung-dong.

This action follows similar calls for Lee Jae-myung to honor his own pledges regarding lawmaker misconduct.

▶ On February 16, 2023, the prosecution filed a warrant for arrest for Lee Jae -myung, citing preferential development of Wirye New Town and Daejang -dong and suspicion of donation of Seongnam FC.

On February 27, the National Assembly voted on the arrest agreement.

Current parliamentary lawmakers possess a privilege that prevents them from being arrested or detained without the consent of the National Assembly during a session. Thus, the arrest agreement must pass the National Assembly’s plenary session to allow the court to conduct interrogation of the suspect before the arrest.

Though, the result of the vote was rejection, and the warrant was dismissed without court review.

(At the time, there were 139 votes in favor out of 297 people, 138 votes against, 9 abstentions, and 11 invalid votes.)

▶ in this regard, Kwon Sung-dong issued a strong criticism.

He posted on Facebook at 8:35 am on February 19,2023,shortly after the prosecution’s request for arrest,asking,”If you really believe in your innocence,you should relinquish the privilege of the artillery and demonstrate it through a warrant.”

This statement was based on the fact that Kwon Sung-dong had previously relinquished his own privilege.

Representative Kwon Sung-dong stated on Facebook around 11:53 am on February 16, 2023, the day of the prosecution’s arrest warrant request for Lee Jae-myung, “I was investigated in the so-called Gangwon Land case during the moon Jae-in regime. It was very unfortunate, but I declared my own abandonment for the party.” the warrant was dismissed for the actual screening, and the Moon Jae-in regime was recognized for innocence.”

▶ Then, on March 23, 2023, a press conference was held at the National Assembly, and a pledge of abandonment of the immersion privileges was released, with 51 people’s strengths.

‘If the arrest agreement is submitted during the session due to the suspicion of the crime, it promises to abandon the privilege of the lawmakers as defined in Article 44 of the Constitution, and to request the fellow lawmakers to pass the arrest agreement through the new statement of the plenary session.’

At the press conference, it was stated, “The privilege of instruments is a constitutional provision, so it cannot be eliminated without the amendment.”

In particular, it was emphasized that it was time for Lee Jae-myung to hold the National Assembly to assume and vote for the arrest of the National Assembly.
