Numerous Microsoft 365 users have voiced their annoyance and bewilderment over unexpected problems affecting software programs like Outlook, Teams, and Exchange.

The social media platform X has been inundated with posts from perplexed users who are unable to access the widely used applications.

One user asked, ‘Why is this happening, please, when I [use] my android Outlook?’ She also shared a video of a blank screen while attempting to use the email app on Monday evening.

Another user echoed, ‘OMFG I hate Microsoft Word!!!! Has it always sucked this bad?’

Another person posted, ‘Well that’s new…Outlook had a memory leak or somthing – got up to about 5Gb of RAM before I task-killed it,’ while sharing an ambiguous message stating that his ‘session has unusually high memory consumption.’

According to Downdetector tracking, Microsoft 365 complaints spiked just before 7pm EST, with over 1,400 reports.

The tracker indicated that sixty percent of the complaints related to Outlook, while 26 percent concerned Exchange, and 15 percent pertained to the website in general.

Microsoft Addresses the Outages

Microsoft has acknowledged the outages, posting a service status update that read: ‘We’re having issues, but we’re working on it.’

The company shared on X that they are investigating reports regarding several services, specifically Teams and Exchange.

The firm specifically indicated issues with Microsoft 365 – which Exchange falls under – at 5:45pm EST.

The notice read, ‘Users may experience degraded functionality for some Microsoft 365 apps,’ marking a red ‘x’ to indicate its current status.

‘We’ve confirmed that all services are recovering following our mitigative actions.We’re continuing to monitor recovery and in parallel confirm details regarding the impacting update.’

Shortly before 8:30pm, Microsoft updated the message to state that all issues with 365 had been resolved.

Teams Issues Persist

The software giant also noted that Teams is experiencing difficulties.

Microsoft noted users ‘may experience intermittent crashes of the microsoft Teams desktop app.’

‘We’ve initiated the deployment of the new build version containing our fix, and anticipate it will complete by our next scheduled update on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 6:00 PM UTC, remediating impact for all users,’ the statement read.

However, this warning pertaining to Teams troubles was initially rolled out on May 26.

The company stated that Outlook ‘is up and running,’ despite ongoing complaints about being unable to use the email service online.

Possible Workaround for Outlook Crashes

On Friday, the Microsoft 365 team published a possible ‘workaround’ to Outlook crashes.

This online document was updated on Monday morning, before the internet was flooded with Outlook-related complaints.

‘When you open or start a new email, classic Outlook crashes. This issue occurs because Outlook cannot open the Forms library,’ the company wrote.

‘This issue can occur for Outlook on all Microsoft 365 Office channels. The emerging cases for this issue are on virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

‘This issue has been escalated for investigation. We will update this topic when we certainly know more.’

Listing out step-by-step instructions to the potential quick fix, the support team suggested creating a FORMS2 folder.

Microsoft 365 is utilized by more than two million companies globally – with over a million business customers in the US, according to Statista data from February.
