The New York Islanders have officially named Mathieu Darche as their new general manager, confirming earlier reports. The declaration marks a notable change in the team’s leadership.

John Collins, an operational partner with the Islanders, expressed confidence in the appointment, stating, “Mathieu is the perfect choice to direct our hockey operations. It will have all the resources available for Islanders to be leaders on the track, with our business initiatives and in the community.”

Darche, 48, brings a wealth of experience from his six seasons as director of hockey Operations for the Tampa Bay Lightning. During his tenure, the Lightning consistently made the playoffs, securing consecutive Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021, and reaching the finals in 2022.

As General Manager and Executive Vice president, Darche succeeds Lou lamoriello, who departed from the Islanders last month after seven seasons with the team.

“I feel truly honored for the opportunity to be the general manager and executive vice president of the New York Islanders,” said Darche. “I want to thank Scott Malkin, Jon Ledecky, John Collins and the entire proprietary group for entrusting me for the hockey operations of this great franchise.”
