A Legacy of global Impact: ECPM’s Congresses

ECPM’s commitment to global collaboration is evident in its series of World Congresses Against the Death Penalty. The inaugural congress in Strasbourg in 2001 sparked an international movement, uniting civil society, policymakers, and international organizations. Seven subsequent editions have taken place in major cities around the world, including Montreal, Paris, Geneva, Madrid, Oslo, Brussels and Berlin. These global gatherings are strategically complemented by regional congresses, which focus on the specific challenges and opportunities within particular regions.

internship Responsibilities: A Multifaceted Role

As an intern, you will work closely with the Director of Programs and the event coordinator, playing a vital role in the organization of the Regional Congress. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing translation and dialogue support, leveraging Japanese language skills.
  • Assisting with the logistical arrangements for all congress sessions, including opening and closing ceremonies, conferences, and workshops.
  • Contributing to the progress and writing of essential organizational documents.
  • Maintaining relationships with partners,suppliers,and local civil society organizations.
  • Participating in on-site logistics and technical supervision, including managing roadmaps, reception, and volunteer coordination.
  • Supporting the management of congress guests, including travel arrangements, accommodation, and visa assistance.
  • Providing general organizational and administrative support to ensure the smooth functioning of the project.

ECPM is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in human rights. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree (Master 1 level) in project management or a related field.
  • Remarkable organizational skills and a practical mindset.
  • Fluency in both French and Japanese (oral and written).
  • Intermediate proficiency in English (oral and written).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a multicultural team surroundings.

Prior experience in event organization, whether through academic, extracurricular, or professional activities, is highly desirable.

Practical Details: Location, Duration, and Compensation

The internship will ideally commence as soon as possible and last for a period of 5 to 6 months. The position is based in Paris, with travel to Tokyo anticipated between October 4th and November 10th, 2025. A compulsory internship agreement is required.

Compensation includes legal allowances of €4.35 per hour, full reimbursement of transport costs (upon presentation of proof), and restaurant tickets valued at €11.97 (60% covered). Interns also accrue 2.5 days of leave per month.
