In a concerted effort to safeguard the rights and well-being of mexican workers participating in the Temporary Agricultural Workers Program (PTAT),the Ministry of Migrant (Semigrant),in collaboration with the national Employment Service (SNE) and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW Canada),recently conducted crucial workshops.These workshops, convened by federal deputies, aim to equip individuals with the knowledge necessary to navigate the challenges of working abroad and prevent exploitation.

The workshops specifically targeted approximately 100 individuals preparing to embark on temporary work assignments in the United States and Canada. The core objective was to educate them about their labor rights in these foreign countries, thereby mitigating the risk of abuse or fraudulent practices.With a significant number of workers, such as the 2,366 individuals from Michoacan heading to Canada on work visas, Semigrant is actively forging strategic alliances to provide comprehensive information and support to these workers throughout their journey.

Goverment and Organizations Unite for Migrant Protection

Lenin Villegas, technical secretary of Semigrant, emphasized the critical need for continued collaboration between all levels of government, legislators, and relevant organizations. This unified approach is essential to develop and implement robust protection policies for migrants and their families. Furthermore, Villegas highlighted the importance of securing agreements with both the U.S. and Canadian governments to facilitate safe, orderly, and legal migration pathways through work visas.

It is necessary to continue adding efforts between the three orders of government, legislators and organizations to promote more protection policies for migrants and their families and achieve agreements with the US governments and Canada to achieve a safe and orderly migration through work visas.
