Truck Volume Doubles, Straining Terminal Capacity
Data indicates a near doubling of truck traffic entering the terminal, with numbers exceeding 4,000 compared to the usual average of fewer than 2,500. This surge is primarily concentrated at the New Priok Container Terminal One (NPCT 1). Despite the increased volume, terminal operating systems are reportedly functioning normally.
this sudden influx highlights the challenges faced by ports worldwide in managing fluctuating cargo volumes.Such as, the Port of Los Angeles, a major gateway for US trade, has also experienced periods of significant congestion due to increased demand and supply chain disruptions.
Collaborative Efforts to Resolve Congestion
Pelindo Regional 2 is collaborating with various authorities, including the tanjung Priok Port Main Port Authority, the North Jakarta Police Chief, and the Port Police Chief, to address the congestion. These joint efforts aim to streamline traffic flow and optimize terminal operations.
Takwim masuku, Head of the office of kesyahbandaran and the Authority of the Main Port of Tanjung Priok Port, emphasized the ongoing coordination to resolve the issue, stating that there are no systemic problems within the container terminal itself. He also requested that terminal operators expedite receiving and delivery services and maximize the use of available buffer zones.
We also express our gratitude for the support of the police who are very quick to help the process of breaking down the congestion that occured at the Port of Tanjung Priok. It is hoped that in the future the terminal can also set the Daily Gate Pass Number for Receiving Delivery so that there is no significant surge, said takwim Masuku, Head of the Office of Kesyahbandaran and the Authority of the Main Port of Tanjung Priok Port.
Looking Ahead: Implementing Gate Pass Systems
To prevent future congestion spikes, authorities are considering implementing a Daily Gate Pass Number system for receiving and delivery. This measure aims to regulate the flow of trucks entering the port and prevent overwhelming surges in traffic.
