For the second consecutive week, Mexican judo made a statement on the international scene thanks to the 16 medals obtained in renowned international tournaments that took place this Saturday.
After having won 10 medals the previous week in the Central American and Caribbean Cup in Panama, the senior team returned to action in the same competition, now held in Guatemala, where it took 15 metals (three gold, three silver and nine bronze), as well as third place overall, only behind Colombia and Cuba.
Arath Juárez, Gilberto Cardoso and Diego Díaz proclaimed themselves monarchs; Olympian Paulina Martínez, Robin Jara and Alexis Esquivel achieved runner-up status; while Moisés Rosado, Eduardo Araujo, Samuel Ayala, Jeremy Olivares, Víctor Ochoa, Kassandra Espinoza, Naomi Pozo, Katia Castillo and Liliana Cárdenas rose to third place on the podium.
The competition held in Guatemala was of vital importance as it was the last qualifying event for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, with which the Olympic cycle to Los Angeles 2028 will begin.
The joys for national judo and our country did not stop here, since Eduardo Sagastegui won the gold and became champion of the Dubrovnik European Cup, which took place in Croatia.
After these great results, the Mexican judokas will head towards their next important challenge: the Pan American Championship Panama 2026, to be held on April 18 and 19 and which will be a qualifier for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.
