The Polish U-19 national team is competing in the qualifying rounds for the European Championships. The White and Reds took second place in group 9 with six points and advanced to the next qualifying phase. The Poles won 2-1 away against Bosnia Herzegovina and at home against Moldova and lost 0-1 to Italy in front of their home crowd. Now the team led by coach Łukasz Sosin will start competing in the second round of qualifying at the end of March.

Everything indicates that the Polish U-19 national team will be helped by Wojciech Monka, who is doing great in the league and is the discovery of this season. Maksymilian Dyśko, a journalist from TVP Sport, announced his appointment to this team.
The 19-year-old Lech Poznań stopper is an outstanding player of his team. In the last six matches of PKO BP Ekstraklasa, he was in the starting lineup and played for 90 minutes. After his appointment to the U-19 team, a storm broke out on social media. Many believe that he should get a chance in the U-21 team now.
“Wojciech Mońka and Bartosz Mazurek were called up to the national team… U-19. I repeat – U-21. You have two qualifying matches in U-21, with Armenia at home and with Montenegro away (2 out of 4 matches in 2026), and perhaps the best players of the young generation in our league are unnecessary,” admitted Dawid Dobrasz, a journalist at Meczyki.pl.
“Wojciech Mońka was called up to the U-19 national team. A very strange decision, he should have joined the U-21 team at least now. Lech Poznań’s best defender would immediately raise the level of Jerzy Brzęczek’s team. Unfortunately, the process of introducing players takes a long time” – wrote Radosław Laudański on the X website.
“Wojciech Mońka, who has been developing into the best central defender in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa in recent weeks, will go to the training camp of the Polish U-19 national team at the end of March. It is difficult to comment on this decision in any logical way,” added Antoni Malinowski.
“Youth teams probably exist mainly for the Polish Football Association. Kacper Potulski, a top talent in the Bundesliga, is sitting on the bench in the U-21 team. Wojciech Mońka, the top Ekstraklasa stopper, will play in the U-19 team. Under normal conditions, it would be the U-21 duo of stoppers who would be considered for the bench for the first national team,” emphasized journalist Szymon Janczyk.
Mońka played 20 games for Lech Poznań this season. He didn’t score a goal and didn’t have an assist.

Lech Poznań after 24 rounds with 38 points is in third place in the table. Zagłębie Lubin is three points behind the leader. Both teams will face each other in Lubin in the next round – March 15 (2:45 p.m.).
