Egg prices in Kyrgyzstan continue to rise. Now a dozen already costs 160-170 soms, although a month ago the price did not exceed 140 soms.
For buyers, this is a noticeable increase in price in just a few weeks. People are concerned about rising prices for one of the most basic products and are waiting for explanations and stabilization of the market situation.
If a couple of weeks ago a dozen small eggs on the market could be bought for 80-90 soms, now their minimum price is 110 soms.

How do the Ministry of Vodselprom explain the rise in prices?
The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry reported that the growth was influenced by demand in Kazakhstan and Russia, where wholesale and retail prices for products also increased.

“The wholesale price has risen from 10 to 12 soms per piece. But there is a positive side for producers. Last year, prices were low, many domestic entrepreneurs were on the verge of bankruptcy. This year, such an increase will allow farmers to recover,” the department noted.
According to the ministry, Kyrgyzstan is 80% self-sufficient in chicken eggs.
What do poultry farmers say?
Editorial Kaktus.media I also talked with domestic poultry farmers. According to their information, the rise in egg prices is due to several reasons.
Firstly, food prices have gone up, which are imported from Kazakhstan. At the same time, the state exempts them from VAT in order to support poultry farmers, but even with this measure, costs remain high.

Secondly, the situation was complicated by bird flu. There were cases of disease in Russia, Kazakhstan and other countries, and in many places the birds had to be destroyed.
“In general, a shortage has arisen all over the world, and the demand for eggs has increased sharply. Accordingly, this also affects prices. Even in the most developed Japan, they are faced with a similar situation,” poultry farmers say.

According to them, Kazakhstan actively purchased eggs from Kyrgyzstan last year. Now exports go mainly there.
However, domestic producers must primarily supply the domestic market – supermarkets and regions of the country.
Thirdly, over the past two years egg consumption has increased. People have become more health conscious and cook eggs for breakfast more often, so demand within the country is also increasing.
“In general, the rise in prices is associated with the global situation, rising feed prices and increased demand,” poultry farmers noted.

They concluded that to stabilize the market, a dialogue between the Ministry of Water Resources and the antimonopoly authorities is necessary. It is important to understand whether there is a decline in production or a problem in other factors, and take action based on this.
