Grażyna Świtała made her debut at the festival in Opole as a teenager, but she gained real recognition only in the 1970s and 1980s. Her songs combined elements of pop and country, and she gave concerts both in Poland and abroad. Off stage, the artist also devoted herself to the “Really Waiting for Someone” foundation, supporting talented children with disabilities and organizing a festival in Ciechocinek.

Will there be a film about Katarzyna Nosowska? The artist left no doubts

Świtała’s first marriage to doctor Krzysztof Kettner lasted only two years. Later, she was in a relationship with the composer and arranger Andrzej Rutkowski, with whom she had a daughter, Agata. The artist loved her family and often put her private life above her career. – Career has never been the most important thing to me. I don’t want her at any cost… Today, the only thing that really matters is my daughter – she said in an interview for “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

However, she had moments of crisis. – But when life became too much for her, she reached for a drink. She couldn’t cope with her mother’s death, her breakups with men, or the allegations about the festival. Too much for one person – said her sister Henryka Świtała-Syrie in an interview with “Viva”.

In July 2003, Grażyna Świtała was suddenly hospitalized after suffering a severe headache. – I go in and she says she hit herself and that she feels really bad. And that she had already called the doctor. She had a split lip and a severe headache. But she often suffered from headaches, so I wasn’t worried then, added Henryka Świtała-Syrie. The diagnosis revealed a cerebral hematoma that required immediate surgery. Although the artist’s condition initially improved after the procedure, two weeks later the singer died.

Her passing at the age of 49 surprised her family and fans. Despite the rumors about a possible beating, the artist’s sister firmly denied that anyone from outside was involved. – Grażyna was conscious when going to the hospital. She would tell me that someone beat her or pushed her. We were very close, she explained.
