Marine Le Berder, doctoral student in biology at the University of Strasbourg, will give a conference on the mosquito, long considered a summer pest. Today it represents a major health issue. To limit its impact, various methods are used: insecticides, releases of sterile mosquitoes or even biological control. However, each has limitations.
This is why scientists are closely interested in the physiology and immune system of this insect, in order to develop more sustainable approaches; for example, genetically modified mosquitoes incapable of transmitting viruses. These advances pave the way for more sustainable and effective control of mosquito-borne diseases.
Tuesday, February 10, at 7 p.m., at the Maison de la musique d’Erstein. FREE ENTRANCE.
