The formation of the new service will allow specialized procedures to be provided in the south of the country and avoid referrals to other more complex centers.

The General Hospital of Itapúa finalized the formation of its plastic surgery team, marking an important advance in the expansion of the medical services available in the main healthcare center of the department. This incorporation strengthens specialized care and represents a direct benefit for patients from Itapúa and other parts of the south of the country.

The team is made up of doctors Emy Hashimoto and Marcelo Galeano, professionals with training in plastic surgery, who held a coordination meeting with Dr. Rubén Román, head of the hospital’s Medical Department. During the meeting, the first guidelines of the new service were established, as well as the planning of the initial activities and the care protocols that will be implemented.

The availability of plastic surgery within the General Hospital of Itapúa will allow us to attend to both reconstructive cases and procedures derived from trauma, congenital malformations, consequences of previous surgeries and other pathologies that require specialized intervention. In this way, the need to transfer patients to reference hospitals located in other regions of the country will be significantly reduced.

The hospital management highlighted that this incorporation responds to a growing demand from the population and is part of a sustained process of strengthening the public health system in the department. In addition, it will optimize resources, shorten waiting times and offer more comprehensive and humanized care.

The launch of the plastic surgery team adds to other highly complex services already existing at the Itapúa General Hospital, consolidating it as a regional reference center. With this initiative, the institution reaffirms its commitment to the continuous improvement of healthcare quality and equitable access to specialized health services for the population in the south of the country.
