Karl Marx wrote: “Only when all sources of social wealth flow fully can society write on its flag: From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs!”
(Criticism of the Gotha Program, 1875)
Today we are at a point where AI, automation, biotechnology and digitalization could enable precisely this abundance – that is, what Marx described as a prerequisite for communism. Transhumanism – i.e. the technological advancement of humans – could fulfill several conditions that favor communism:
1. Automation: Machines and AI take over work, freeing humans from forced labor.
2. Abundance instead of scarcity: 3D printing, robotics and energy abundance could produce goods in abundance.
3. Abolition of bureaucratic apparatus: AI could control planning, logistics and resource distribution efficiently and transparently – without gigantic administration like in old socialist states.
4. Global interconnectedness: Digital communications and artificial intelligence weaken national borders and promote a global consciousness that transcends property, nations and classes.
5. Equality of opportunity: Through technological expansion (e.g. education via AI, medical improvements) differences between people could be further reduced.
In this way, transhumanism could, in the long term, create the material and organizational basis for a domination-free communism,
in which no one person rules over another – because planning, knowledge and prosperity are accessible to everyone.
What do you all mean:
So could transhumanism be the historical transition that makes communism practically possible?
or, on the contrary, does it lead to a new technological elite rule?
