ODESSA, Texas – The Odessa Police Department is warning the community about the risk of icy roads that are expected to persist throughout the day. Icy conditions, especially on overpasses and bridges, can create dangerous situations for drivers.
Ice usually tends to form first on elevated surfaces, such as steps and bridges, even when other roads appear clear. Motorists are urged to plan ahead, leave early and slow down for safe travel.
OPD recommends drivers turn on their vehicle lights, increase the distance between cars, and avoid hard braking or sudden turns, as these actions can lead to loss of control on icy surfaces. In addition, it is suggested to pay attention to weather reports, consider additional time for transfers and drive with caution.
