The Hungarian men’s water polo team, which is preparing for the European Championships in Belgrade in January, defeated the hosts the Netherlands 12-9 in Rotterdam on Saturday, the Hungarian Telegraph Office reported.
Last week, the team of national team captain Zsolt Varga first lost 14-13 in Szeged to the Olympic silver medalist Croatians, and then lost 15-14 to the Italians in Budapest’s Komjádi Swimming Pool. In the continuation in the Netherlands, the quarters ended with 4–2, 2–3, 3–5, 0–2, and the home team did not find the back of the net in the last 12 minutes.
The Hungarians will take on Turkey on Sunday at 18:00 and Croatia on Monday at 18:00 in the preparatory tournament in Rotterdam.
The continental competition starts on January 10 in Belgrade, and the national team is in a group with the Maltese, the French and the Montenegrins.
