It was at the Table of Friends in Jacou that the Barracudas of Montpellier wanted to celebrate their title of champion of France in the 3rd baseball division. On the initiative of Pierre Jacquot, player, and also president of MJC Boby-Lapointe, this event was organized in Jacou.
There were more than 60 players and supporters who responded to the invitation and proudly presented to Renaud Calvat, the mayor of Jacou, the superb cup won this year by the MUC baseball reserve team, after a magnificent season which saw them win in the national championship of the 3rd division, the D3, which automatically made it participate in the D2 championship.
They initially dominated the southeastern quarter of the country. The semi-final against La Rochelle was cut short, with two narrow victories at the Veyrassi pitch in Montpellier on the weekend of August 30 and 31. The final took place at the Cézeaux stadium in Clermont-Ferrand, a magnificent setting for this opposition against the northern champions, the Expos d’Ermont. In a formula which crowns the team winning two matches over the weekend, the Montpellier residents took the lead by winning the very close match on Saturday September 13 by a score of 6 to 4.
The Expos responded on Sunday morning by winning Game 2 by a wide margin, with a score of 17 to 6. As in all great stories, everything settled in the decisive match, which started at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The Barracudas won the game very solidly 10 to 0. The captain, Ariel Valdez, could exult and the veterans Jacquot and Haras contemplated these decades spent at the club before reaching this national title.
The celebration of this unprecedented victory took place in a very good atmosphere.
