US singer Mariah Carey will perform at the opening ceremony of the Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics, organizers announced on Monday.
The opening ceremony will take place on February 6 at Milan’s “San Siro” stadium, while the Olympics will last until February 22.
The 56-year-old singer is famous for her hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and other familiar songs. The five-time Grammy winner is the first named celebrity at the ceremony.
Mariah Carey, recognized worldwide for her inimitable voice and musical legacy that spans multiple generations and cultures, perfectly embodies the emotional spirit of the Games,” the Games organizers said in a statement.
“Music and sport together will create an Olympic opening ceremony where harmony will become an expression of collective energy.”
The opening ceremony will be produced by “Balich Wonder Studio”.
The ceremony will be held at the San Siro football stadium, although it will not host the Winter Olympics. Italian football Serie A clubs AC Milan and Inter Milan, who share the arena, recently announced plans to demolish the famous stadium after the Olympics.
