In a rapidly changing, uncertain world, Canada’s new government is focused on what it can control. He has a plan to protect and strengthen the sectors most affected by US tariffs. This provides for measures aimed at helping Canadian industries adapt to this new global context.
Today, the Honorable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue, announced the implementation of new measures presented by the Prime Minister November 26re last to provide immediate relief and long-term clarification to Canadian manufacturers.
To provide stability to Canadian businesses as they make adjustments to their supply chains, the horizontal remission of Canadian tariffs on imports from the United States has been temporarily extended:
- until January 31, 2026 for steel products, used for the manufacturing, processing, packaging of food and beverages, as well as agricultural production in Canada, with the exception of steel products used for the manufacturing of motor vehicles, aerospace goods and their parts, for which the rebate is extended until January 3, 2026.0 June 2026;
- until June 30, 2026, for aluminum products used in the manufacturing, processing, packaging of food and beverages, as well as agricultural production in Canada;
- until June 30, 2026, in the case of goods used for public health, health care, public safety and national security purposes.
The extension of the rebate period will allow businesses to make more accurate forecasts as they adjust their supply chain to move from imported to Canadian sources of supply.
The Government of Canada also released today the list of imported steel products that will be subject to global customs duties of 25 %from 2December 6, 2025.
As announced by the Prime Minister, tariff quotas for imported steel products will also be reduced from 2December 6, 2025: either to 20 % 2024 levels for non-signatory partners of a free trade agreement (FTA), and 75 % 2024 levels for partners that are not signatories to an FTA with the United States.
