BMW has revealed the latest model of the iX3 electric crossover, calling it a “big leap” forward from the company’s previous achievements. This version promises an impressive range, lightning-fast charging and a host of advanced technologies that truly demonstrate BMW’s ambition to redefine the standard for electric cars.
At the official launch of the iX3 at the Munich Motor Show on Friday, BMW CEO Oliver Cipse said it was a “once-in-a-lifetime moment” and the start of a new era for the brand. The iX3 is not simply an updated model, but a completely redesigned car, built from the ground up. Cipse emphasized that the company “skipped a whole generation” in terms of design, making the iX3 “even more BMW than ever.”
Technical innovations and impressive mileage
The BMW iX3, whose dimensions reach 4782 mm in length, 1895 mm in width and 1635 mm in height, visually resembles the Porsche Macan Electric. To maximize the distance traveled per charge, the design is dominated by a sleek, aerodynamic shape with minimal lines. A new front design with a vertically oriented radiator grille, which emphasizes the car’s proportional lines, gains recognition.
As the first BMW car to be built on the new Gen6 platform, the iX3 offers significant improvements in mileage, efficiency, charging capabilities and overall functionality. In addition, this is the company’s first electric car with a two-way charging function. According to the WLTP standard, the mileage on a single charge reaches up to 800 km, while according to the American EPA standards, about 400 miles (643 km) are provided. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the iX3 supports up to 400 kW of charging power. BMW claims that in just 10 minutes the battery can absorb energy, allowing for a range of more than 370 km.
Modern interior and strong AI
The cabin has also undergone a radical change, combining a minimalist style with the latest technology. The central element is an impressive 17.9-inch display of the multimedia system, which works on the basis of the new BMW Operating System X. This system is based on four powerful computers capable of processing data 20 times faster than current solutions. The iX3 is also the first model to feature the new Panoramic iDrive interface, which the company says creates a “completely new driving experience” and will become standard for future generations of BMWs.
Availability and future plans
Production of the BMW iX3 will begin this year at the new BMW plant in Debrecen, Hungary. The first deliveries in Europe are planned for the beginning of 2026, while the US model will arrive in the summer of 2026. A special version for the Chinese market will be produced in Shenyang.
Initially, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive version will be offered, which is already priced from €68,900 in Germany. The iX3 will be available in the US market in the summer of 2026 from $60,000 with a range of approximately 400 miles (643 km). The iX3 40 sDrive and iX3 40 xDrive variants will arrive in early 2027, with prices starting at less than $55,000 and a range of over 300 miles (more than 480 km).
BMW has confirmed that starting next year, all of its model lines will be updated. The company plans to introduce 40 new or upgraded cars by 2027, and the iX3 is the first sign of this ambitious model update program. It demonstrates BMW’s determination to be a leader in the future of electric mobility.
