45 Earth-Like Planets Found: Search for Life Advances

by Archynetys News Desk

Researchers from the Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell University have pointed out the existence of 45 planets that have characteristics similar to Earth and that could have the right conditions to host extraterrestrial life. These celestial bodies are located in the so-called habitable zone, an ideal area that is at a balanced distance from their host star, avoiding both extreme heat and excessive cold. The discovery is part of a broader study that seeks to reveal which among the more than 6,000 exoplanets identified to date are most likely to support life.

To advance the identification of these potential new homes for life, researchers have highlighted the importance of observation, suggesting that space telescopes, such as the James Webb and the newly planned Nancy Grace Roman, will play a crucial role in this effort. They have also determined a more restricted three-dimensional habitable zone that includes 24 of these planets. According to experts, knowing the best observation targets represents a significant first step towards understanding the possible versatility of life, taking space exploration towards a new horizon.
