Steel doors, herringbone floor, kitchen island… Somehow Roos understands the choice that many people make. “It is safe and timeless, a good basis. But you bring soul into a house by collecting and personalizing.” That is the first tip she gives: “Put down that old cupboard from the family. Collect when you travel. Put some of the children’s drawings in nice frames. A house is easily a house, but not so easily a home.”

The second tip? Invest in installation and customization. “It costs a lot of money, but if you choose custom-made sofas and cupboards in which, for example, the TV and heating are concealed, you immediately have a unique home. With all the separate elements, a chair here, a cupboard there, it can look messy. It is a luxury if everything is correct and fits together.”
In last, but not least: “Wallpaper can also provide a lot of depth and warmth. No, not a floral wallpaper, but woven silk or sisal for layering. Works great in an interior.”
