22 & Retired: Her Life After Leaving Her Career

by Archynetys Sports Desk

– Magda informed us that ice skating no longer brings her joy. I talked to her at length about this. At first, I couldn’t come to terms with it, but after listening to the arguments, I accepted this decision – said Łukasz Fabjański, the player’s coach, in 2019 to TVP Sport.

Warakomska quite unexpectedly decided to quit her career, having already achieved many successes. For a long time she was at the forefront of the national short track. During the Polish Championships in 2017, she won the 1000 and 1500 meters, which allowed her to defeat Natalia Maliszewska and win the gold medal in the all-around. A year later, in the absence of the future World Cup winner, she defended her title.

In 2018, she went to the Olympic Games and in Pyeongchang, she was the first Pole in history to qualify for three different distances (500, 1000 and 1500 m). Her best performance was over the kilometer distance, where she took 12th place, and was eliminated in the qualifications over the remaining two distances.

1.5 years later – at the age of only 22 – she finally finished her sports competition and changed the discipline.

Warakomska switched to the gym. She won two medals in the XPC Federation European Championships, MPF category (uniformed services) in powerlifting.

– For me, it was the first serious start for which I was preparing. I’m actually learning this sport. In Siedlce, I took third place in the open category up to 60 kilograms. In turn, I won the European military championship – she said in an interview with Interia, who serves in the Territorial Defense Forces.

She recently announced her new role. “From now on, apart from being a teacher and trainer, I have also become a teacher of class 4PA! This new role is not only another professional challenge, but above all a great responsibility, because I have been entrusted with something very valuable: trust, human hearts, children’s dreams, small and big joys and worries of my students,” she wrote on Instagram.
