Dongdaemun District Library, operated by Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation (Chairman Hee-soo Park), is recruiting participants for the ‘2026 Reading Marathon’ to form reading habits and spread reading culture among residents.

Dongdaemun-gu Facilities Management Corporation announced that it will run the ‘2026 Reading Marathon’ at district libraries such as Dongdaemun-gu Information Library, Dongdaemun-gu Dapsimni Library, Hwigyeong Children’s Library, Baebongsan Forest Library, and Dongdaemun Book Market Library.

The Reading Marathon is a participatory reading event that compares book reading to a marathon and challenges participants to complete the course by recording the number of pages read over a certain period of time. Over the past two years, it has produced about 300 completers and has led to steady reading participation among local residents, and this year marks its third year.

Participants choose one of five courses, including toddler, walking, short course, half course, and full course, read the book, write a reading record, and complete the course when they reach the target page. In particular, in this competition, a new ‘Hall of Fame’ category will be established and awarded to excellent participants from 2024 to 2025.

This reading marathon will run for approximately 7 months (200 days) from April 12th to October 28th. Any member of the Dongdaemun District Library who is in the first year of elementary school or older can participate.

To apply for participation, please select one library participating in the reading marathon and visit the library’s website starting at 9 a.m. on March 17th. Participants who complete the course are also provided with various benefits, including the issuance of a completion certificate.

An official from the corporation said, “Through the reading marathon, we will support residents to experience the joy of reading books and form a steady reading habit,” and added, “The library will continue to play a central role in providing a variety of reading experiences.”
