So far, the year 2026 does not have an official name. However, when it is defined and approved by a supreme decree, its use will be mandatory in all documents and communications of public entities. In the private sector, however, their employment will be at the discretion of each institution.
The official name of each year is usually defined in the last days of the annual calendar, so in the coming weeks it is expected that the name it will bear will be formally announced. How they chose the name of the year 2025 in Peru
The Government of Dina Boluarte decided that the name of the year 2025 will be “Year of the Bicentennial of José Faustino Sánchez Carrión”, in tribute to one of the most transcendental characters in the independence process of our country. It should be noted that this has been known for a few months, but the official document has not yet been published.
The consolidation of Peru as a homeland occurred from independence events where precursors and ideologists stood out for getting involved in political affairs and even went so far as to write part of the first Political Constitution, which is why from the Regional Government (Gore) La Libertad today comes the proposal of César Acuña addressed to Dina Boluarte seeking to highlight and distinguish one of the most important historical figures of said region through the name of the Year 2025.
It is worth highlighting and remembering that, according to the State officially, former President Fernando Belaúnde Terry ordered in 1963 that the Government in power assign an official name to each year with the purpose of having it used compulsorily by all public institutions and entities that make up the Executive Branch in official documents during the next 12 months.
