In December 2024, Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, her co-star and director in the film It Ends With Us, for sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. This legal battle made headlines throughout 2025.
According to Lively, Baldoni tried to improvise unwanted kisses, discussed her sex life without her consent and tried to add unscheduled nudity scenes. The scandal intensified when the actress and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, accused Baldoni and his team of having orchestrated a smear and defamation campaign to “silence” her after she filed complaints.
Baldoni later countersued Lively and Reynolds for $400 million for defamation. However, in June 2025, a judge dismissed the countersuit, which was seen as a legal victory for Lively. Lively’s original sexual harassment lawsuit and the $160 million in emotional damages sought remain active, with a civil trial scheduled for 2026.
Sydney Sweeney y American Eagle
Another of the year’s big storms included Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney, who became the face of denim brand American Eagle’s fall campaign. The commercial generated controversy on social networks when users accused it of having messages with racist tones.
Debate arose as some critics claimed that the use of the word “jeans” as a pun on “genes” had racial connotations, implying genetic superiority. Two months later, the scandal took a political turn when President Donald Trump expressed his support for the actress’s announcement during a press conference in Pennsylvania, where she was informed that she was registered as a Republican in Florida.
In December, Sweeney released a statement declaring that he did not support the views that some people sought to connect with the campaign, and that he regretted that his silence on the issue had deepened hatred and division. However, many users on social networks considered that the moment of apology had come too late, claiming that their true purpose was to avoid suffering monetary losses on their films.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
The legal saga of music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was one of the most notorious controversies of the year. The scandal, which began with multiple civil lawsuits for sexual assault and human trafficking, moved into the criminal sphere with federal investigations that intensified throughout the year.
The trial began in May with the testimony of singer and model Cassie (Cassandra Ventura), the rapper’s ex-partner and star witness in the trial. During the first two days of her appearance, Ventura recounted her life for more than 10 years, between 2000 and 2010, with Combs, accusing him of rape, domestic violence and forcing her to participate in wild orgies laden with drugs.
In September, after months of deliberations, presentation of evidence and brutal testimony, the jury found the rapper guilty of two serious charges of transportation for the exercise of prostitution, acquitting him of the most extreme charges. He was sentenced to 50 months in prison, five years of supervised release and fined $500,000. He is currently serving his sentence at the low-security Fort Dix facility, about 130 kilometers south of New York.
La Kiss-Cam de Coldplay
Known as the Astronomer crisis, one of the most viral scandals of the year occurred at a Coldplay concert in Boston when the jumbotron camera captured the CEO of the technology company Astronomer, Andy Byron, and its Human Resources director, Kristin Cabot, together in a romantic attitude.
When they were surprised, both separated abruptly, causing the video to spread quickly on social networks, where users soon discovered that both executives were married to other people. Memes about the event filled the platforms for weeks, while at the same time there were important debates about privacy, business ethics and infidelity.
Both Byron and Cabot resigned from their jobs. To manage the crisis, the company hired actress Gwyneth Paltrow, ex-wife of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, as a temporary spokesperson, a move that won them public sympathy.
Cazzu and Christian Nodal
After a 2024 marked by an abrupt separation, accusations of infidelity, an unexpected marriage and explosive statements, controversies followed the Argentine singer Cazzu and the Mexican Christian Nodal during 2025.
In September, the Con Otra interpreter revealed that she had been waiting for a year for Nodal to send her a travel permit so she could leave the country with their common daughter, Inti, but that she had not received a response. She added that during a meeting, the singer’s legal team had made her feel controlled and violated. Weeks later, she commented that they did not have an agreement on child support that she considered fair, due to the high support costs for the girl.
After the accusation, the Mexican interpreter issued a statement in which he denied the allegations and asserted that, since the separation, he has sent millions for the benefit of the little girl. He also assured that he had never refused to grant travel permission, accusing Cazzu of violating the legal process and manipulating public opinion for his benefit. To date, the parties have not reached an agreement on these issues.
Bad Bunny en el Super Bowl
Although the announcement that Bad Bunny would headline the prestigious Super Bowl LXI halftime show in 2026 was met with euphoria from fans, the news was also a source of debate and controversy.
President Donald Trump and his allies used their platforms to directly criticize the election, calling it “un-American.” The criticism was based on the political stance of Bad Bunny, who had recently canceled all of his tour dates in the US in protest of immigration policies and ICE raids. Republican representatives argued that the NFL should not give such a massive platform to an artist who was actively “boycotting” the country. Some people also questioned choosing an artist who will sing in Spanish for an American show.
Amid the controversy, rumors began to circulate that Coca-Cola planned to withdraw its sponsorship in protest. However, the company denied such facts, pointing out that it has not been a sponsor of the event since 2020. The NFL also ratified the decision, ensuring that criticism would not make them change artists for the halftime of the great sporting event.
Kevin Federline y Britney Spears
The historical conflict between Britney Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, resurfaced with virulence at the end of 2025 after the publication of Federline’s memoirs, titled You Thought You Knew.
In the book, Federline made very personal and disturbing revelations about the singer’s mental health, including a detailed account of an incident in which he allegedly found her with a knife while her children were sleeping. Spears was quick to respond to the accusations, calling her ex-husband’s memoirs gaslighting, publicly accusing him of profiting from her suffering and intentionally damaging her relationship with her children, who had distanced themselves from her.
The scandal generated an intense media debate, dividing fans between those who supported Federline’s version and those who denounced the book as an act of exploitation of the artist’s vulnerability. In response to the controversy, Britney deleted her Instagram account for a couple of days.
Gloria Estefan’s daughter involved in a domestic violence case
The daughter of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Emily Estefan, was inadvertently the center of headlines in October 2025. The scandal was unleashed with the arrest of her partner, Gemeny Hernández, in Miami on charges of alleged domestic violence.
Police documents confirmed that Hernández was arrested on accusations that included assault and robbery against Emily Estefan at her home. Hernandez had his first court appearance, where the defense argued that the incident was a simple domestic dispute and requested immediate release. During her digital testimony, Emily supported this version, stating that it had been a misunderstanding and stating that she did not want Gemeny to remain detained.
Neither the young woman nor her famous parents issued a public statement to comment on the incident, opting to keep the matter strictly private while the legal process unfolded.
Miss Universe: fraud accusations, lawsuits and legal problems
The coronation of Fátima Bosch as Miss Universe 2025 was, from start to finish, one of the most controversial in the history of the pageant. The controversy started during the first days of the concentration in Thailand, when Bosch had a strong argument that went viral with the president of Miss Universe Thailand, Nawat Itsaragrisil.
Since then, Fátima’s victory has been tarnished by allegations that her victory was bought, due to links between Raúl Rocha Cantú, director of the contest, and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), a company in which the miss’s father is a director.
The image of the pageant has also been affected after the scandals that have arisen linked to the owners of the pageant, such as the arrest warrant for fraud of Anne Jakrajutatip, co-owner of Miss Universe, and the investigation into organized crime linked to Rocha.
