Amazon Web Services (AWS), PlayStation Network y Cloudflare were the services that have recorded the greatest online interruptions globally during this year 2025, reaching more than 17 million reports on Downdetector in the case of the cloud computing platform.
They have also highlighted the interruptions of services such as Snapchat, Vodafone y WhatsAppwhich have been some of the most pronounced in the European region, with PlayStation Network coming in first place, which recorded 1.7 million reports.
This was reported by the company specializing in Internet diagnostic services Ookla, based on the data collected by the real-time monitoring service for problems and outages Downdetector during 2025, which highlights how, despite being essential today, digital services continue to present fragile behavior that can prevent the use of tools necessary on a daily basis at any time.
Specifically, the most significant interruptions recorded this year have taken place at the platform level, including video, gaming and communication platforms, which have faced service problems that have affected millions of users.
Likewise, the company also focused on the role of centralized infrastructure, given that many individual platforms depend on the same providers cloud and mainframe systems. As a result of this dependency, some of the outages that have occurred this year have demonstrated how a “single point of failure can cause outages that propagate simultaneously to multiple services.”

Thus, according to Downdetector data and as Ookla clarified, globally, the largest incident recorded in 2025 was the result of an AWS interruption, which generated more than 17 million reports between Amazon and all other affected services.
Specifically, this interruption occurred on October 20 and lasted more than 15 hours. Likewise, it was caused by a problem with DynamoDB’s automated DNS management system, located in the United States. Because of this drop, users of dependent platforms such as Snapchat and Netflix were also affected.
For its part, PlayStation Network was the protagonist of the second largest global interruption, which occurred on February 7 and with more than 3.9 million reports registered in Downdetector, of users who could not access video games such as Call of Duty o Fortnite.
Lasting more than 24 hoursthis interruption affected the video game company’s entire network and was caused by an internal PlayStation Network problem, “without significant involvement of the cloud or the internet service provider.”
Finally, the Cloudflare outage was the most recent, occurring on November 18, consolidating itself as the third largest globally this year, with more than 3.3 million reports in all affected services.
In this case, it lasted around five hours and affected multiple websites, applications and APIs, which depend on Cloudflare services, such as the social network. Xel ‘chatbot’ ChatGPT and the video game League of Legendsas well as Canva and Downdetector itself.
Thus, the interruption of this service is an example of the global dependence that currently exists on a centralized cloud infrastructure.
Service interruptions in Europe
For their part, the disruptions to online services in Europe also include drops in gaming, social media and important telecommunications services, in part affected by the global disruptions mentioned above.
So much so that the PlayStation Network outage tops the list in the European Union, where it collected a total of 1.7 million reports from users in this region.
In second place has been the social network Snapchat, which suffered an interruption on October 20, generating 989,559 reports from users on Downdetector. Next, Vodafone UK has experienced the third largest drop in Europe this year, adding 833,211 reports collected.
The cause of this incident, which occurred on October 13, was that the telecommunications service suffered a non-malicious software problem with a provider partner, which affected the services of banda ancha, 4G and 5G.
The instant messaging network owned by Meta, WhatsApp, was not far behind either, with a significant interruption of its services in February that prevented messages from being sent to thousands of users, and generated a total of 621,763 reports.
Likewise, services such as YouTube (with 490,000 registered reports), Spotify (468,0000), X (382,000), Odido (357,000) and Cloudflare (326,000) have been other service provider companies that have suffered interruptions in 2025 in Europe.
