10,000 patients found a treating doctor in the Nord santé centers and 1,000 mammograms carried out in the Nord santé truck.
In January 2024, the Northern Department opened its first Nord santé center in Douaisis, in Cuincy, to respond to inequalities in access to care observed in certain northern living areas. Since then, five other houses have opened their doors in Avesnois in Glageon, Landrecies and Feignies, in Flanders in Cappelle-la-Grande and in Douaisis in Lambres-lez-Douai. A sixth house will be inaugurated in Quiévy in 2026.
This Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the Nord Department recorded 10,000th patient who found a treating doctor thanks to the activity of the Nord santé houses. For Christian Poiret, president of the Northern Department, it is recognition that the Nord santé centers provide a real and concrete solution to the needs of Northerners. With recognized difficulties in accessing care, particularly in areas furthest from large urban centers, the action of the community certainly complements that of health actors but also and above all at the heart of solidarity which is the central competence of the Northern Department.
At the same time, the Department’s North Health truck, which crisscrosses the territory to offer local examinations to Northerners eligible for breast cancer screening organized by Health Insurance, records its 1,000th mammogram. For Barbara Coëvoët, vice-president in charge of Health and prevention, the Nord santé truck is a necessary tool in a department which has an excess mortality of more than 25% compared to the national average in terms of breast cancer: 6 cancers were detected over the first 8 dates. Nearly a third of the patients seen had not had a mammogram for more than 4 years and more than 70 Northerners had to have additional examinations. The health of residents is a major issue, the Nord santé truck is one of the answers.
