10 Astronomy Events: Stargazing Festival & Winter Skies

Stargazers can’t miss these 10 astronomy events to welcome the “Stargazing Festival…Welcome the Cold Breeze” for the year 2025-2026.

National Astronomical Research Institute (Public Organization) (SDR or NARIT) Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (Higher Education) invites Thai people to look at the stars this winter. Starting the first event on November 1, 2025, “Open the stargazing festival…get the cold breeze” Stargaze every Saturday night at 5 locations at the same time: Sirindhorn Astronomical Park, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, and the Chaloem Phrakiat Observatory, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao and Songkhla, along with revealing 10 interesting astronomical events throughout this winter.

Mr. Suparerk Krihanon, Assistant Director of the National Astronomical Research Institute, revealed that the most appropriate time for stargazing in Thailand is during the winter. Especially in the northern region, which NARIT has designated this period as “Stargazing Festival” every year This year will begin on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Stargazing will be open every Saturday night again at Sirindhorn Astronomical Park, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province until May 2026. Chaloem Phrakiat Observatory in Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao and Songkhla is open for business as usual. In addition, there is a parade of 10 special astronomy events throughout the season. Participation is free. There is no charge as follows.

1) Opening the stargazing festival to welcome the cold breeze, Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Opening the first stargazing season of the year with the theme “Halloween Starry Night” inviting you to dress up in Halloween costumes and join in the stargazing. and celestial objects through telescopes of various sizes Amidst the sound of beautiful music playing throughout the event.

2) Starry Night over Chiang Mai, November 3 – 4, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. with the theme Moon Night Party in the Park, inviting you to experience stargazing and moon viewing in the heart of the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization park with a caravan of more than half a hundred telescopes. and a variety of astronomical activities At the event at the end of the rainy season and beginning of winter, you can see stars for free. 3) Super Full Moon, the full moon closest to Earth in the year. Loy Krathong night, Wednesday, November 5, 2025 from 6:00-10:00 PM. Come dress in Thai and local costumes with the theme “Loy Krathong” to see the full moon closest to Earth in the year. 4) Geminids meteor shower, night 14 – morning 15 December 2025, begin viewing the phenomenon at 8:00 p.m. onwards until dawn. The maximum falling rate is approximately 150 moons/hour, without disturbing moonlight. Invite you to join in counting the meteor shower. and view celestial objects through a telescope in Chiang Mai and Chaloem Phrakiat Observatory, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao, and Songkhla. 5) NARIT Night at the Museum 2025, 27 – 28 December 2025, 6:00-10:00 p.m., opening of the astronomy exhibition. Special nighttime planetarium and stargazing activities Ready to join in celebrating the Christmas festival amidst the dazzling stars and the winter breeze at the end of the year at 5 locations at the Sirindhorn Astronomical Park, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, and the Chaloem Phrakiat Observatory in the Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao and Songkhla regions.

6) NARIT AstroFest 2026, the night of Jupiter closest to Earth in the year, Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. A grand astronomy extravaganza on National Children’s Day. There is only one time a year with a special open house at Sirindhorn Astronomical Park! 9) Total lunar eclipse over the Thai sky, Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Come see the phenomenon. “Total lunar eclipse” can be observed with the naked eye in every region throughout Thailand. NARIT is preparing to organize simultaneous observation at 5 locations at Sirindhorn Astronomical Park, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province and Chaloem Phrakiat Observatory, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Chachoengsao and Songkhla.

10) NARIT Public Night, stargazing every Saturday night. Stargazing activities for the public View celestial objects through a 0.7 meter telescope and many other telescopes of various sizes, along with an introduction to stargazing.
