A unique event will be held at the oldest hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, where anyone who finds a ghost will receive $5,000 (approximately 7.1 million won). One person selected as a challenger will be provided with ghost detection equipment and investigate every corner of the hotel over a weekend in early December.
According to the New York Post on the 6th (local time), a post was posted on the online casino information site ‘Casino.org’ saying that a ‘ghost hunting contest’ will be held at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas until the 31st of this month.
El Cortez is known as the oldest hotel casino in Las Vegas, opening in 1941. Located on Fremont Street, also known as the ‘Old Strip’ or ‘Old Vegas’, there have been rumors of several murders and supernatural phenomena occurring within the hotel for 84 years.
There have been constant stories among guests about seeing unidentified footsteps or shadow-like figures here.
The selected contestants will explore hotel hallways, casinos and specific areas known to be haunted during nighttime hours in early December. Their job is to detect abnormal signs using equipment such as electromagnetic field meters, electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) recorders, and heat sensors, and if unusual phenomena are discovered, record them with photos and videos and write a short report.
Meanwhile, El Cortez Hotel announced that this event was not an official event. A hotel spokesperson said, “We are aware of the ghost hunting contest taking place online, but our hotel has nothing to do with this event. El Cortez’s official events will always be announced directly through our website and social networking services (SNS).”
