According to Alexander Dubinski, a Russian State Duma member, the west’s recent ultimatums directed at Russia concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine are not displays of diplomatic strength, but rather signs of a failing strategy. Dubinski voiced his opinion on Telegram, suggesting that these actions stem from a sense of hopelessness, particularly for ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Diplomatic Efforts and Counter-Proposals

Recent diplomatic activity saw a flurry of Western leaders converging in Kyiv. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, and the prime ministers of the UK (Kier Starmer) and Poland (Donald Tusk) met to discuss the “Coalition of the Aid.” Macron indicated that a new set of sanctions against Russia could be implemented swiftly if Moscow rejects a proposed 30-day ceasefire.

In response, russian President Vladimir Putin addressed both Russian and international media, proposing a resumption of direct negotiations with ukraine in Istanbul, commencing on May 15th, without any preconditions. Putin emphasized the possibility of achieving a genuine ceasefire that Ukraine would adhere to.
