If maintaining leadership for a year is already difficult, repeating the feat several times in a row is even rarer – especially in a market that is gaining more and more competitors. Even so, the Volkswagen T-Cross ended 2025 as the best-selling SUV in Brazil for the third consecutive year, an achievement that confirms the model’s strength in the industry’s most competitive segment today.
According to data from Fenabrave, 92,800 units were sold, which places the T-Cross as the fourth most sold vehicle in the country taking into account all categories. Among SUVs, there were 16 thousand more cars than second place, the Hyundai Creta. And the numbers still show an increase of 20 thousand models sold compared to two years ago.
The explanation for these numbers involves a very balanced recipe. The T-Cross combines good interior space, a high driving position, efficient turbo engines and a generous equipment package. In a segment where many cars try to stand out in just one aspect, the German SUV bets precisely on the balance between several important points for the consumer.
The 2026 line brought very few changes, maintaining the essence of the project. The strategy follows the logic of “not moving too much on a team that is winning”.
But after all, what explains the model’s continued success? To better understand these numbers, we evaluated the Highline version, which brings together practically everything the T-Cross has to offer. Detail: it is no longer the ‘top of the line’, as the SUV gained the Extreme option in 2025.

Design: the set continues to focus on simple lines and balanced proportions. It is not a design that seeks to shock or draw attention in an exaggerated way, but rather conveys robustness and maturity.
The latest update brought discreet changes, with redesigned headlights that now adopt full LED lighting. At the front, they are accompanied by a new grille, now illuminated as in the Nivus and Taos, and bumper that makes the look more modern, with shapes that suggest air intakes and which are a more sophisticated appearance.
At the rear, the highlight is the illuminated bar that connects the two lights, a feature that reinforces the SUV’s visual identity and creates a more refined effect at night.
The dimensions of the T-Cross remain the same, measuring 4.21 m long, 1.76 m wide, 1.57 m high and with a wheelbase of 2.65 m. What changes is the possibility of coming with the biton roof, which was removed in the 2026 line. On the other hand, this configuration has a roof rack and sports pedals.
Life on board: the 2026 line maintained the small changes from the previous year. The digital panel, with a 10.25-inch screen and configurable, has new coverings and details with visible seams that try to increase the perception of quality. Even so, the cabin maintains the predominant use of rigid plastics, something common in the segment.
Another highlight continues to be the interior space, with good legroom in the rear seat. Taller passengers can travel in relative comfort, something that doesn’t always happen in compact SUVs.
The trunk also offers an interesting solution: the rear seat can vary the backrest inclination, allowing the luggage compartment volume to be increased when necessary. With this, the capacity can increase from around 373 to approximately 420 liters.
The model tested by the report came with a panoramic sunroof, but the item is optional. To have it, you need to pay R$7,740 for the Sky View Package – which also includes a rain sensor and electrochronic rearview mirror.
Equipment: In the Highline version, the T-Cross offers a very complete technological package for the category. Highlight is the VW Play Connect multimedia center, with 10.1 inches and onboard internet. It is positioned prominently in the center of the dashboard and brings together most of the system’s controls, including wireless connectivity with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, and control of various car functions.
Other equipment includes digital air conditioning, reversing camera, induction cell phone charger, adaptive cruise control, electronically folding mirrors, autonomous post-collision braking, tire pressure control, pedestrian detection alert and rear parking sensor.
Anyone who wants the ADAS package pays an additional R$4,215. In this case, the SUV gains lane keeping and blind spot alert, parking assistant and vision cameras around the vehicle.
Performance: the mechanical package remains unchanged in the most recent T-Cross updates. In the Highline configuration, the SUV uses a 1.4 TSI turbo flex four-cylinder engine, which delivers around 150 hp and more than 25 kgfm of torque at low speeds.
This engine works together with a six-speed automatic transmission, forming one of the brand’s best-known sets in Brazil. In practice, performance is one of the model’s strong points, with quick responses when accelerating and consistently recovering on the road.
Another highlight is the chassis setup. The suspension seeks to balance comfort and stability, allowing you to tackle uneven streets without compromising behavior when cornering too much.
In terms of consumption, the turbo engine also has competitive numbers for the category. According to Inmetro, consumption is 14.2 km/l on the highway and 11.8 km/l in the city, both with gasoline. With ethanol, the numbers are 9.9 km/l and 8.2 km/l, respectively.

Positive Points
- Strong performance
- Good internal space for the category
- Competitive technology package
Negative Points
- Finished with lots of hard plastics
- High price for full versions
Verdict
The T-Cross’ success is not the result of just one isolated factor. The SUV brings together several qualities that make a difference in everyday use: good internal space, performance above the segment average and a competitive technological package. In a market full of strong rivals and constant innovations, it continues to offer a very balanced set. Maybe it’s not the boldest or cheapest among compact SUVs, but does it deliver exactly what many consumers are looking for? and that is why it continues to dominate sales in Brazil.
