The Hague – On Saturday morning a very large fire raged on the roof of an apartment building on Newtonstraat.
The building was in the scaffolding when a fire broke out. At 6:26 am the fire was reported to the emergency services. The fire was initially scaled up to a major fire, but soon scaling up to a very large fire followed.
The fire on the roof of the portico apartment caused a lot of smoke development.
The police closed the area so as not to hinder fire brigade work and to guarantee the safety of bystanders.
About 30 residents are outside. Exactly how many homes have been evacuated is not yet known. Staff of the ambulance service hand out blankets for the cold. There are also pets on the street. The residents were later taken care of in a temporary stay.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and is being investigated.
The fire brigade has deployed vehicles of barracks in, among others, The Hague, Monster, Rijswijk and Honselersdijk.
