An explosion followed by a fire occurred this Wednesday at the oil processing plant of the state-owned Petrocedeño located in the state of Anzoátegui, the Reuters agency reported citing sources from Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), to which Petrocedeño belongs.
The explosion occurred in the afternoon and generated flames and a column of smoke that gathered near a distillation tower, Reuters said.
After this, workers at the complex were evacuated as a preventive measure, the agency added, while local media on the scene said emergency services were heading to the area.
So far, no injuries have been reported.
CNN contacted the Government of Anzoátegui and PDVSA to request information about the incident and is awaiting a response.
