Zelenskyy Alarms: North Korea’s Role in Ukraine-Russia Conflict
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has sounded the alarm over the recent deployment of North Korean troops in Russia, warning that this move not only spells trouble for Ukraine but threatens the security of Asian nations allied with the West. In a statement, Zelenskyy expressed his concern about this strategic alliance during a frank interview with South Korea’s KBS on Thursday.

"North Korea’s actions aren’t random," Zelenskyyietro. "They have strategic goals." He emphasized that the North Korean troops are not operating in isolation but are altering the geopolitical landscape, both regionally and internationally. Zelenskyy echoed the imminent threat outlined by U.S. officials who announced that approximately 10,000 North Korean soldiers are deployed in Russia for combat operations against Ukraine.

Zelenskyy’s warning came as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin held a joint press conference with their South Korean counterparts. They confirmed that some 10,000 North Korean soldiers have been deployed to Russia for training, with around 80% already in Kursk and set to begin combat operations against Ukraine within days.
In response, South Korea pledged to send a team of specialists to Ukraine for collaboration on defensive capabilities, including air defense. Zelenskyy suggested that the Asian region should start contemplating an “Asian Security Alliance” with nations like South Korea and Japan leading the charge.

"Their actions aren’t coincidental – they want Russia’s support in return," said Zelenskyy. He underscored the urgency in preparing for potential threats, expressing hope that South Korea never faces similar challenges but emphasizing that preparation is key. Zelenskyy welcomed the idea of South Korea increasing its involvement, indicating that the presence of North Korean troops across the globe poses a significant risk.
